Gala Dinner & International Best of Wine Tourism Awards
The finale to Wine Discovery New Zealand 2010, the gala dinner will celebrate our fine New Zealand wine matched with our gourmet cuisine. More than this, the gala dinner will honour the best in wine tourism from around the world with the International ‘Best Of’ Wine Tourism Awards.
Judged by members of the Great Wine Capitals delegation, the awards recognise international excellence in wine tourism.
Wine Tourism Award Categories
Accommodation
For wineries that provide guest accommodation such as motels, bed and breakfasts or cabins. This category is also open to hosts who demonstrate they are closely involved in the marketing and promotion of wine tourism within the region.
Wine Tourism Restaurants
For wineries that operate restaurant facilities, providing a quality wine and food experience, using local or regional produce. This category is also open to restaurants able to demonstrate they are closely involved in the marketing and promotion of wine tourism within the region.
Innovative Wine Tourism Experiences
For wineries that offer innovative, educational and/or leisure activities/experiences for individuals and groups. This could include on-site wine and food events; or wineries collaborating to develop a programme or event.
Wine Tourism Services
For businesses that provide a significant service to the wine tourism industry, such as wine tour operators. It is also open to wineries with a focus on the conference and convention market or those that offer professional conference and business retreat facilities.
Sustainable Wine Tourism Practises
For wineries that have implemented environmental practices and sustainable innovations and developments, both in the vineyards (for example organic farming practices) and in the winery (for example reduced energy consumption). These practices also need to align with and enhance the visitors’ experience.
Category Prizes
Each category winner receives a ‘Best Of Wine Tourism’ trophy and will be entered into the annual ‘International Best of Wine Tourism Awards’.
Winners will be profiled on the global Great Wine Capitals Global Network (www.greatwinecapitals.com) website; receive a presence in our ‘Best Of’ advertisements and press promotion in local and international media.
Winners will feature in a guide distributed to major local and international wine and tourism exhibitions; will be invited to participate in educational events and wine tourism conferences and receive additional marketing and promotional support.
